Morgans Gallery, Falmouth - A showcase of local emerging Artists

Finally visited the newly opened Morgan’s gallery, their second exhibition showcasing an expertly curated selection of local artists. The gallery’s interior is true to its renovation celebrating the history in the walls, giving the space some existing narrative and a beautiful backdrop for the art.

A few of my favourite pieces:

Laura Menzies

‘Organic shapes, rich textures and gestural mark making are just a few of the elements that embody her abstract work. Menzies’ fragmented compositions embrace a slightly undone and imperfect feel and often contain harmonious pallets in soft hues; inspired by living a stones throw from the coastline. She paints in an intuitive and physical way building up layers of oil, cold wax, collage and mixed media to conceal and reveal sections. Her paintings ask the viewer to slow down and provide a gentle space for reflection and contemplation.’

Nekton, Matthew Dixon:

‘My work begins in the space between a lived and recalled experience. It’s never my intention to relay a specific location, but rather, to embrace this ‘movement in memory’ and enable a retelling of my encounters with landscape and the natural world.’
