Moroccan Interiors: Riad Boaussala
Is a beautiful guesthouse with just 6 rooms situated off a long dirt track in the country surrounding Essoauria. Set up by Dominique almost 15 years ago, the dwelling had no power supply for the first 7 years but evolved with help of Business partner Léah from what was initially a home into a stylish boutique retreat.
The grounds are complete with pool, plunge pool, Hamman, with lots of hidden dining spaces to relax in a quiet sun spot or shady nook. The Main house is on one level wrapping around a large courtyard/ terrace area where breakfast and dinner is served. The communal spaces, such as the living area (image above) all have the most extraordinary pieces of furniture and art; beautiful Beldi rugs sourced locally, and handmade furniture by local craftsmen. This main living room has a seating area formed into the floor of the building itself. The seating wraps around a terracotta plaster central fireplace whose formed niches double up as a bookcase.
Each room/ suite is decorated in its own individual style. I was lucky enough to stay in the red room, whose vivid walls balance the white walls to great a cosy yet bold space, with all furnishing and details carefully chosen to work in the space. The bathroom rivalled the room, with shower and sink formed into the building itself with the traditional Moroccan plaster, to create some beautifully tactile surfaces.
